TWP+Summer+Radio3=Love

July 7, 2008

The Wheat Pool joins some pretty fantastic company this week… on CBC Radio 3’s latest podcast by host Grant Lawrence, titled “Summer of 2008 Roadtrip Mixtape! (#163)”.

Radio 3 Podcast Blog

As the band gets ready to take their own road trip out to Vancouver, it seems fitting that the Vancouver-based indie radio kings would slide the song “Evergreen” in alongside such great Canadian performers as Sloan, Sam Roberts, Champion and Hawksley Workman.

These songs were made for the road, so its nice to see them getting proper use. Support Radio 3 – subscribe to their many podcasts through iTunes or from their website

Summer News

July 1, 2008

Happy Canada Day from The Wheat Pool! Summer 2008 is going to be a good time for the band.

In just a couple more weeks the band begins a series of shows between Edmonton and Vancouver they are sharing with No Horses. No Horses is a Vancouver band of gritty, dirty country rock. Formerly called Mud River, they shared a stage with The Wheat Pool a couple years back and have been looking for a chance to do some shows together ever since. Don’t miss these gigs, July 14, 15, and 16, in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver.

The Wheat Pool has been taking a break recently following a long 8 month push of the release “Township.” A couple of career changes in the band member’s personal lives needed to happen, and now the band is excited to use the down-time to begin work on a new record. You may have heard a few new songs sneaking into the setlists over the past few months. The remainder of the summer is going to be spent writing and rehearsing the new record, with plans to begin in the studio following the fall show schedule.

Of course there will be more shows here and there around Western Canada during all of this, so keep your eyes open!

TWP on School of Rock & Hoody Winners!

May 23, 2008

The Wheat Pool has often been asked about their name, from day one really. Well, on their recent trip to Vancouver (New Music West showcase performance) the band had the pleasure of visiting the CBC Radio 3 studios to tape an edition of “School of Rock” – a regular podcast feature allowing bands to educate the listening audience with some interesting and connected piece of history.

And they were showered with some fantastic Radio 3 swag – thx again.

The band spilled on their connection to the history of The Wheat Pool cooperative in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

You can download this podcast by visiting CBC Radio 3 podcasts

Thanks to Grant Lawrence and Chris Kelly at Radio 3. Good People.

Oh – and thanks Vancouver. We had a great time.

Radio 3 Charts

The band is excited to see Township climbing the Radio3 charts for the past four weeks, currently at #18.

You can help in some way, we’re sure, by continuing to send in your requests to Radio3 by email (feedback@cbcradio3.com) or phone (1–877-955–6565) or using the comment forms on the website. (radio3.cbc.ca).

March is Wheat-Pool-Month in Toronto!

February 25, 2008

Ok, not officially. But we like to think so. West invades the East in March, as The Wheat Pool takes on Toronto for two special showcasing opportunities open to the public as well.

1. Friday March 7 at The Cadillac Lounge (midnite performance). As part of Canadian Music Week (cmw.net). The band will be around all week, taking in performances, meeting as many people as they can.

2. Thursday March 20 at The Dakota (10pm). Peforming for the opening night party of The Exclaim Cup hockey summit. Great night to meet bands/artists from across the country, meeting up for some rink rock.

Breakfast TV Today!

February 14, 2008

The boys will be live on City Tv (channel 7 cable edmonton ab) this morning, on the remote segments of Breakfast Television. Take a peak if you’re a morning person, getting ready for work, doing laundy, etc.

The acoustic performances are to promote the upcoming show at the Pawnshop on Whyte Ave (Edmonton AB) this Saturday, Feb.16.

Live Recording, Make Some Noise!

February 7, 2008

CBC Radio will be taping the upcoming performance at The Pawn Shop in Edmonton, AB on February 16. The recording will eventually air on both national and regional programs, so stay tuned for information for those broadcasts.

The Feb.16 performance is perhaps the only local date for the band for the rest of the winter, as they will spend most of their time out of town, so we’d love to see you all out to make some good noise for the CBC. The show is also the CD release for acclaimed Edmonton singer-songwriter Tanyss Nixi, so a great night of music is promised.

TWP, Radio3, and the Future

January 11, 2008

The most recent CBC Radio3 Podcast is featuring The Wheat Pool, alongside many other great new Canadian artists. The podcast, entitled “The Future of Music” and hosted by Grant Lawrence, is “all about music we should all be listening to in 2008.” The band is a big fan of Radio3 and the podcasts, so it is an honor.

Thanks to Radio3 and Grant Lawrence for making good mention of the band recently, among the many great peers “up and coming” in the Canadian music scene.

Twice Your TWP For FREE! UPDATE!

December 5, 2007

THIS DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO DEC.17 (Monday) Sorry for the inconvenience. It was previously listed for December 13. Spread the word.

——————————————-

This Thursday December 17 at O’Byrnes on Whyte Avenue, Edmonton, you get your chance to hang out with the band in a way usually only good friends and family have experienced.

The Wheat Pool will be playing the sweet little confines of O’Byrnes Irish Pub. These shows feature two full sets by the band, and best of all, the shows have no cover at the door. Just good times with friends and drinks and munchies or whatever.

Its your chance to hang out with the bands and their peeps in a more friendly setting and maybe hear some new tunes. The guys are aiming to make the pub overflow, so bring out your friends etc. We’d love to see all of our friends and fans that night.

The band usually starts playing some time around 9:30pm. Can’t wait to see you there.

If You Were Listening

November 26, 2007

Township continues to get a lot of critical attention over the airwaves, and the band hopes you’ve had a chance to catch some of the recent features.

Recent spotlights include CBC‘s Definitely Not The Opera, CKUA‘s Mulligan Stew with Terry David Mulligan, and Robb/Mike were recently interviewed on CBC Radio 1’s In the Key of A.

Special thanks to those hosts and producers for giving their valuable air time to the record, and remember to call in and email your responses and support. Its the only way to keep the ball rolling.

TWP Finding Radio Success

October 24, 2007

TOWNSHIP has shown some significant legs for a rookie record, recently entering the national EARSHOT Top50 charts at #42.

EARSHOT compiles the charts of college and communtiy radio stations across Canada. After eight weeks of steady placement in the Folk/Roots Top10 chart, the band is thrilled to see the record make its way into the top fifty.

TWP is CKUA's 'Nitecap" feature

October 17, 2007

The band and the new CD ‘Township’ will be the feature artist for the revered radio program ‘Nitecap’ on CKUA tonight.

Nitecap is hosted by Luka Symons, based out of the Calgary extension of CKUA, who has featured a number of other Shameless Records artists over the past couple of years and has always treated the label family very well.

You can listen online from anywhere, at CKUA.com, or in Edmonton on 94.9fm and Calgary 93.7fm. Other FM locations are available on their website.

Be sure listen, and perhaps continue listening to Luka’s shows as she is an exceptional host who always brings a brilliant lineup of artists each day. CKUA is also entering their donation season, and could use our support.

Special thanks to Luka for her continued support of the band and the label.

TWP on CJSR Today

October 15, 2007

Robb, Mike and Glen will be live on-air today for local 88.5fm CJSR‘s FunDrive. The guys will be lending a hand during the 3–5pm show, maybe playing some songs, giving away CDs and generally talking up the virtues of such a find campus station. You can tune in online at CJSR.com.

And consider supporting the station yourself. Every little bit helps keep a great independent voice alive in the city of Edmonton. Or find your own community/campus station in your city and do the same. Seriously good karma.

Exclaim Review

September 26, 2007

The CD ‘Township’ was reviewed in everyone’s favourite national indie-music publication Exclaim!

Also reviewed this week in local street paper VUE Weekly with very flattering words.

Radio and Charts

September 25, 2007

Township is being played on college/campus radio across Canada. Please show your support by calling and requesting the band (a complete list of stations will be available in a couple days). The record is getting great response, and has been #1 on local CJSR Folk/Roots chart, #10 on that same chart, and #7 on the national Earshot Folk/Roots chart. Again, you can show your support by calling in.

Getting Linked

September 14, 2007

The Wheat Pool song “Emily Carr” was recently featured in a Vancouver blog as one of five must-listen songs about the city. Great interpretation. Check it out.

Sold-Out Release Show Success

September 10, 2007

The Wheat Pool would like to thank everyone who came out, and kept coming and coming, to the release show this weekend. It was a great success. We oversold capacity and had to begin turning people away, sadly. Mostly Water Theatre performed an amazing set of comedy sketches that had the room in stitches – thanks to the group. And thanks to the volunteers who helped bring the night together and carry through without incident.

Thanks also to those who have been thanked already, but not enough: those who contributed to the record and helping the band arrive at this point. Your efforts and gifts have made the difference.

The night was memorable. The band was joined throughout the set by David Aide (keys) and Nathan Carroll (pedal steel), both whom played on the record, and really helped add to the dynamics of the songs. Fellow Shameless labelmate Nick Perreault also jumped on stage to provide some tasty tambourine and bgvs for “Evergreen” and “Geographic…”, and it was great.

So again, many thanks. Looking forward to the next show.

Township Hits Store Shelves

TWP In The Press
