The Wheat Pool

Geographic Centre of Canada

We rush past totem poles and retired airplanes
Caffeine and nicotine buzzing in my veins
Somewhere near High River I pulled to the side of the road
So much space and sky and time spent alone

You sleep peacefully in the sun in the middle of Canada
You’re starting to smile again, or so I’ve heard
I’m back in the car tonight, I’ll be there before you wake
The yellow line is pushing me on and on and on

These ruined photographs from a snowy day in June
And I don’t want this lonely day to end too soon
We retire to quieter corners so we can hear each other talk
But our silences only grow louder as we cry in the Black Dog

You sleep peacefully in the sun in a car across Canada
I’m trying to find the words to make you stay
I’m driven by the need to move so fast but I want to move so slow
The yellow line is pushing me on and on and on

You sleep peacefully in the sun in the middle of Canada
You’re starting to smile again, or so I’ve heard
I’m back in the car tonight I’ll be there before you wake
The yellow line is pushing me on and on and on
